Samsung’s July Unpacked event is the moment the company’s foldables stopped pretending one shape could do every job.
The launch lineup is big: Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9. There is also the wider Galaxy AI message, including deeper Gemini hooks, smarter switching tools, privacy alerts and Samsung Health upgrades. But the hardware story is cleaner than the AI stage language makes it sound.
Samsung now has a foldable for people who want a tablet-class work canvas, a foldable for people who want a lighter everyday book-style phone, and a flip phone for people who want the phone to stay closed more often. The watches extend that same idea to health: one model for outdoor and endurance use, one for normal daily tracking.

Samsung says the phones are available for preorder from July 22, with general availability starting August 7, 2026. The Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Fold8 come in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage options. The Z Flip8 comes in 256GB and 512GB. The watches also start preorders July 22 and general availability August 7 in select markets.
The practical split matters more than the exact launch-day spectacle. Samsung’s old foldable problem was that the Fold had to be the flagship, the productivity phone, the experiment and the proof of concept at the same time. Now the Ultra can be unapologetically expensive and maximal, while the regular Fold8 can chase comfort.
The phone lineup finally makes more sense
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the new top. Samsung gives it an 8.0-inch main display, 6.5-inch cover display, 215g weight, 5,000mAh battery, 45W wired charging and a camera stack led by a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide and a 10MP telephoto. It is the one Samsung wants creators, power users and multitaskers to look at first.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is almost more interesting because it refuses to be the hero phone. It weighs 201g, has a 5.5-inch cover display and opens to a 7.6-inch 4:3 main display. Samsung says the cover screen uses a 10:16 ratio, which sounds nerdy until you remember how much foldable frustration comes from the outside screen feeling like a compromise.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is the social phone in the set. It weighs 180g, has a 6.9-inch main display, a 4.1-inch FlexWindow, a 4,300mAh battery and a 50MP main camera paired with a 12MP ultra-wide. Its most important feature may be whether Now Brief, quick actions and cover-screen apps reduce the number of times users need to open the device.
The watches are Samsung’s second AI screen
Samsung’s watch refresh is less flashy than the folding phones, but it may matter more day to day.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 gets a 47mm case, 1.52-inch Super AMOLED display rated up to 5,000 nits, 800mAh battery, 64GB storage, LTE, dual-frequency GPS, 10ATM+ water resistance, IP69K and EN13319 dive-standard support. Galaxy Watch9 comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes with up to 3,000 nits, 32GB storage and smaller batteries: 390mAh for 40mm and 445mAh for 44mm.
The software pitch is Samsung Health as a more proactive coach. Samsung is pushing Vitals, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index, hydration guidance and sleep-oriented signals. That is the same market Apple, Garmin, Oura and Whoop have been fighting over: make passive biometric data feel like advice.

The caveat: AI has to earn the attention
Samsung is right to build AI around foldable form factors. A big inner display makes multitasking easier. A cover screen makes quick cards and summaries useful. A watch makes daily health nudges feel immediate.
But the risk is obvious. If every device becomes a surface for suggestions, the good suggestions must be much better than the annoying ones. Now Nudge, Now Brief, Gemini Notebook, privacy alerts and Samsung Health advice all depend on taste, timing and trust. The hardware can create the moment; the software has to avoid wasting it.
That is why this launch is bigger than another spec refresh. Samsung is trying to make its ecosystem feel continuous from wrist to pocket to unfolded workspace. The hard part is not shipping five products. It is making them feel like one calm system.
